RYAN NORD KITCHEN
I have been painting unreliable images of places that are inspired by daily experiences. The depictions are symbols of comforting and enclosed locations. They are called unreliable because the unedited marks that constitute the images sometimes fail to pull equal weight. Wavering between abstract gestures and responsible depictions, the paintings become allegories of memory. The objects hold an uneasy truce with the human expectation of stability. Schemas that both confine and liberate find a place to be considered.
