"April Danielle Lewis is an artist, visionary, and community cultivator. Her work explores the intersections of history, place, and identity with a social justice and community building lens. Interventions, performances, installations and experiences are vehicles she uses to express these themes."
In Labor & Deliverance, Lewis examines the changing relationships between emotional labor and womanhood, exploring these roles in terms of race, motherhood, the security state, and the nature of employed labor itself. These works are further informed by the changing face of American cities in our current era, as shown in Lewis's Un-Monument Series which explores what we do with the empty spaces left after the removal of symbols of historical oppression.
April's Artist Talk will take place on Friday January 11th at 6:30pm, and we will host an Un-Monument Workshop on Saturday January 12th. All free, all open to the public.
Regular gallery hours are Monday- Friday, noon-4pm. For more information, call 410-528-9239.
